Video+Games+for+the+Holidays

As the year comes to an end, many genre-defying games have come out for the holiday season. These games have received great reviews from both fans and critics alike. Whether the games are most notable for the year or the decade, they will make a fine addition to anyone’s collection.

 10. Lego DC Super Villains

Rating: Everyone 10 and up

Lego DC Super Villains received good reviews and would be perfect for any child. The best aspect of the game is the customization. In the beginning of the game, the player can customize a character, which the story will revolve around. Including your character, you can also play as iconic heroes and villains, such as Batman, the Joker, Superman, and Lex Luthor.

9. Players Unknown Battleground (PUBG)

Rating: Teen

PUBG is one of the first Battle Royale games ever created. Unlike Fortnite, it is more realistic to modern day, and you also have the option to customize your character. No popular Fortnite dances will be found in this game, but it will make a great gift when it comes to Ps4 later this year.

8. Star Wars Battlefront 2

Rating: Teen

After releasing an extremely successful DLC trailer, Star Wars Battlefront 2 has become more popular with its gaming audience. After the game’s morbid launch last year, the game is coming out with a new DLC which is free to all players. This DLC will include classic Star Wars characters (Obi-Wan and General Grievous) which fans have been asking for since the game’s launch. When the trailer was released, it received 2.2 million views within four days. Another big reason to get this game is that it is on sale for 10 dollars, which is twenty dollars cheaper than it’s normal price.

7. Hitman 2

Rating: Mature

After the successful game, Hitman, the sequel does it’s job in making a good game. The only downside is that the games campaign is a little strange, and the game play feels very reminiscent of the first game. With all of this taken into consideration, it is not a bad game, but feels very familiar of the original Hitman.

6. Call of Duty Black Ops 4

Rating: Mature

Call of Duty has been a very successful franchise for the last fifteen years, and there is no exception for Black Ops 4. When the game first launched, players enjoyed the new multiplayer games, weapons, and zombies. The only thing missing was a campaign, which is included in every Call of Duty game except for this one. Hearing this news was a shock to most players of the franchise, and without the campaign, the game feels like there is something missing. Even though no story is present, Black Ops 4 is still a fun and enjoyable game to play.

5. Forza Horizon 4

Rating: Everyone

Forza Horizon 4 offers even more unique vehicles and compelling graphics than in any Forza yet. Every Forza Horizon game is well known for their great graphics, but this game knocks the others out of the park. Another major change is the variety of maps and weather effects. These new additions make you really feel like you’re there.

4. Battlefield V

Rating: Mature

After EA and Dice released Battlefield 1 in 2016, Battlefield V adds more contented and action packed fun. Trailers for Battlefield V showed much more content, and better graphics than the last game in the franchise, and it completely delivered. Even the most minute details have been added to make Battlefield V one of the most realistic World War II games to date.

3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Rating: Mature

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey begins in 431 B.C. when the main character must protect his home, Sparta, from a Persian attack. Even the beginning of the story is a major change from the normal Assassin’s Creed games. Most of the games take place much later, but this game takes place during Ancient Greece, and contains elements of mythology. A great feature of this game is that you can choose the gender of your character. The male’s name is Alexios, while the female’s is Cassandra. The two characters are twins, and well known warriors. The only downside of the game is that their are frequent glitches that can occur at almost any time.

2. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Rating: Everyone 10 and up

Hyped since its announcement, fans of the Smash Bros. series anticipate it to be the best installment since it adds everyone from all previous games and then some. The only complaint people have is that it’s the first in the series to require the Switch’s new online service to compete with others online, the service is relatively cheap compared to other platforms, but been known to be unstable since it doesn’t have dedicated servers yet. Despite this flaw, most people play the games locally with friends and family anyways.

1. Red Dead Redemption 2

             Rating: Mature

After receiving thousands of great reviews from players and critics alike, Red Dead Redemption 2 offers amazing graphics, interaction with AI, and a sprawling map begging to be explored. Known for its fantastic story of outlaw Arthur Morgan’s road to redemption and new online mode, Red Dead Redemption 2 has much to offer for players of all kinds, even if they haven’t played the first installment.

Read Dead Redemption 2 is a fantastic game, and has very fluid game play. There is something great about jumping off of your horse and to than land on a moving train. It makes you feel like a true outlaw of the Wild West,” said sophomore Sean Phlegar.
