Fifteen years ago, children and gamers alike got their hands on the new Wii console made by Nintendo. Many big games were released shortly after the new consoles were sold such as Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Mario Kart Wii and of course, Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

While the other games had well-known previous titles, the Super Smash Bros. games didn’t have much popularity in the past. The first game released in 1999 with only ten characters on its roster. This grew in 2001 when Super Smash Bros. Melee released 14 new characters to play as including Bowser, Peach, Ganondorf, and Marth. After the game was well-received by those who played on the GameCube, Nintendo decided that even more characters were needed to make the next game really stand out.

On January 29th, 2008 Super Smash Bros. Brawl released to the Wii, this time with nearly over 40 characters to unlock and play as. People loved the game, praising how they finally got to play as the secondary characters from their favorite Nintendo video games. Nowadays, people claim the game was overrated now that they have their hands on a 60-character roster with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. What they tend to forget is that none of this would have been possible if not for the risks that Nintendo took to create such a video game classic.
