Disney’s latest movie Encanto has been stealing the hearts of viewers since its release on November 24th, 2021. The soundtrack, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, has been especially beloved by fans. Most notably, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” as it has now become a record-breaking song.

The track is sung by cast members Mauro Castillo, Carolina Gaitán, Adassa, Diane Guerrero, Rhenzy Feliz, and Stephanie Beatriz. This sextet’s vocals take on the three minute track covering the Madrigal family’s lesser-known member, Bruno. Son of Alma and Pedro Madrigal, Bruno has the ability to see into the future. Given that he can see not only positive events, but negative too, his visions have caused tension between him and the rest of his family. “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” explains the family’s dissatisfaction to Mirabel, who had previously been left in the dark on why her uncle was such an enigma.

Though the song may be confusing to listen to for those who have yet to see Encanto, “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” has achieved piles of unexpected success on the charts and music streaming platforms. The song has amassed over 100 million Spotify streams in total. Additionally, it has become Disney’s second Billboard Hot 100 number one hit, after Aladdin’s “A Whole New World.” It has also become the first number one on the Hot 100 written by one person since Ed Sheeran’s 2018 chart-topper Perfect.
