Jake Hopkins, staff-writer
This is Jake Hopkins. Jake’s a senior and is 17 years old and a staff-writer on the newspaper team. This is his second year on the Greyhound Growl. Outside of newspaper, you can find him running his YouTube channel, GSC Blitzball; a Blitzball League channel, where he and other people upload videos of them playing their games. Blitzball is a plastic baseball that moves significantly more than a regular baseball. He’s devoted hours of dedication to producing videos and playing the games themselves along with hundreds of dollars for the equipment. He takes his YouTube channel extremely seriously. “I treat it like I am in the Major Leagues,” Hopkins said.
He also works at a batting cage where he maintains pitching machines, assists customers who need help, and overall gives people hitting tips when they are hitting. As the manager of his facility, he is also responsible for ensuring all jobs to keep the area well kept are done along with creating the schedules for each week. He is happy to be employed because in the year he has worked there, he managed to save up for and buy a car.
He includes sports in many aspects of his life, and played baseball for thirteen years, including a couple of years here at Lyman. Even though he no longer plays, he still considers himself a student of the game. He does his best to watch his favorite MLB team, the Tampa Bay Rays, as often as possible. His passion for baseball may take him across the country in the future because visiting all thirty MLB stadiums is on his bucket list.
He also takes writing seriously. Here on the Greyhound Growl, he mixes his two passions -- sports, and writing, and you can find him writing the majority of the sports articles on the Greyhound Growl website. He decided to simply take journalism because he needed journalism for his dream career, and that’s where he decided to take it a step further and join the newspaper staff. He is extremely glad he did so because he made new friends and gets to write about things he enjoys, like sports.
