Greyhound Growl

Kate Schieffelin

Kate Schieffelin, editor-in-chief

After three years in the journalism program, eighteen year old Kate Schieffelin is spending her senior year as editor-in-chief of the Greyhound Growl. She most enjoys covering entertainment and school specific topics, as those are her favorite news stories to read. She enjoys staying up to date on the latest campus updates, as well as the intricacies of pop culture.

Outside of school, she spends her free time caring for her animals, doing volunteer work, or hanging out with friends. Warden to a yorkie and hamster, Kate finds comfort in spending time with her animals, whether it’s watching a movie with them, or online shopping to find them new toys, she finds caring for them therapeutic.

Additionally, she volunteers for Letters Against Depression, writing comforting and positive letters to people all over the country struggling with various mental health issues, such as anxiety disorders and depression. She finds giving solace to people who need support one of the best things a person can do, as she believes people should make comforting each other a priority, though it’s often ignored.

When hanging out with friends, she loves watching movies and tv shows while giving unnecessary commentary. Her favorite things to hate-watch with friends are any of the Netflix original movies, notably  the Netflix original horror films, especially considering how pusillanimous she is. If her and her friends aren’t busy being self-proclaimed cinephiles, they’re probably wandering the aisles of Target or pretending to be food critics for the day.

If she’s not busy with friends or one of her various obligations, she’s probably reading a fiction novel, scrolling too far down TikTok’s ‘For You’ page, or listening to music if she really needs a distraction.

Kate is honestly looking forward to seeing where this year goes for the Greyhound Growl, and she hopes to find the website engaging with more students this year. She wants this year to be one of growth and transformation for the paper, as she wants to see a publication she truly loves thrive.
