ADAMS COUNTY, IL — Two people were hurt early Monday when a side-by-side rolled over in rural Adams County, prompting a response from multiple local fire and emergency crews. Deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened just after 2 a.m. near an address in rural Clayton.
Both injured people were flown to Springfield for treatment. Authorities have not said how severe their injuries are, and no additional details about the crash have been released.
Crash happened before dawn in rural Clayton
The sheriff’s office said deputies were called to the scene shortly after 2 a.m. Monday in the Clayton area. The location was described as rural, suggesting the crash took place away from a dense town center.
The vehicle involved was a side-by-side, a small off-road utility vehicle that can carry riders over rough terrain. Officials said it rolled over during the crash, but they have not released what led to the incident.
No names have been made public, and investigators have not identified the people who were hurt.
Airlifts sent the injured to Springfield
Because of the seriousness of the injuries, both victims were transported by helicopter to Springfield, Illinois. The Adams County Sheriff’s Office did not name the hospital or hospitals where they were taken.
The fact that both patients were life-flighted indicates emergency responders decided ground transport was not the safest option. Officials have not said whether either person was in critical condition.
There has been no update on their recovery or on whether either person remained hospitalized Monday.
Several fire and EMS agencies responded to the scene
Multiple agencies assisted at the crash site, including Adams County EMS, Clayton Fire, Camp Point Fire and Central Adams Fire Departments. Adams County Sheriff’s Deputies also responded.
That kind of coordinated response is common when a crash involves serious injuries and a remote location. Crews on scene would have been needed to assess the victims, secure the area and help coordinate the air medical response.
