On June 18th, 2021, “Red (Taylor’s Version)” was announced. She previously had released “Fearless (Taylor’s Version)”. The album has 30 songs and is two hours and eleven minutes long. Announced to be released on November 19th, she ended up changing the date to a week earlier; November 12th. She adds 9 songs to this new album, also called “From The Vault” songs.

Swift does not own any of the albums before Lover, because the record label she signed to in 2005 (Big Machine Records) owns all of the albums that she does not. When her deal was up, she switched labels, while Big Machine still owns the masters. Swift decided to re-record her older albums before Lover since Scooter Braun bought the masters to her six prior albums in 2019. This way, fans can take a trip down memory lane and listen to her older albums, while Swift can have control over her discography. Listening to her older albums means the money does not go to her, so Swifties (Swift’s fan base) agree that when a re-recorded album comes out, you should listen to that instead of the original.

To kick off Red’s new release, Swift starred on SNL. She stars in a skit with comedian Pete Davidson and sings her new hit song, All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault). All Too Well is not a new song, but the fact that it is ten minutes long is new to Swifties. This song is the longest song to be at number one on the charts, as there has never been a ten-minute song ranked number one. In this song, Swift is shading her past relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal, by using lyrics such as “I’ll get older but your lovers stay my age” to shade the fact he dates girls that are in their 20’s. Swift also released a short film of All Too Well, starring the actors Sadie Sink and Dylan O’ Brien, and thought to be a cinematic representation of Swift’s relationship with Gyllenhaal.

Swift collaborates with two new artists for Red’s “From The Vault” songs; Phoebe Bridgers and Chris Stapleton. She also introduces another collaboration with Ed Sheeran, meaning Swift has two different songs with Ed Sheeran on (Red Taylor’s Version). Some of these songs that Swift listed as “From the Vault” were unreleased, while some have never been heard before. Overall, Red (Taylor’s Version) captures the heartbreak that Red had, and adds even more emotion with the vault songs.

Red re-recording has to be one of my top favorites. The All Too Well short film was so sad too, really makes everyone hate Jake Gyllenhaal,”  junior Addison Brooke said.
